Supporting Womens' Participation

Kunanyi Mountain Run is proud to have SheRunnerAus endorsement, which means that we have met the requirements for, or are working towards, providing a more equitable and accessible event for all women. KMR is also proud to be a SheRaces Accredited event.

These are the things we’re proud to be doing for women:

Goal of 50% female run participation
Goal of 50% female run participation

We know that globally, women are still under-represented in trail running event. We’re super stoked that our numbers are steadily growing: in 2025, we had 48% female run participation which was a 9% increase since our first event in 2022.

Pregnancy & Birth Policy
Pregnancy & Birth Policy (3 years deferral)

Women should be able to enter events like ours with confidence, even if they’re planning to have a baby. Women who are, or fall pregnant, prior to race day are able to defer their entry for up to three years and partners will also be able to defer for one if the birth is imminent. Find the full policy here.

Gender-specific qualifiers

The Ultra Solo and Alpine Marathon are suitable for experienced trail runners and previous running experience is required for qualification. We have established gender-specific qualifiers, see them here.

Equitable cut-off times

Following the advice of great organisations like SheRunnerAus and SheRaces, we have cut-off times that reflect gender differences. Find them in the logistics section of each run event.

Allocated space at the startline for elite women & equal prize money
Allocated space at the startline for elite women & equal prize money

We aim to make everyone feel comfortable at the start line, and always encourage the men to make room for fast women. Prize money (when given) is always of equal value.

Bush Play (Kids Drop off)
Bush Play (Kids Drop off)

We partner with Free to Be Bush Play And Learning, who provide Bush Play (Kids drop-off) on Saturday and Sunday. Kids aged 5-12 can be dropped off at Bush Play at the Runhub, so that while you play on Kunanyi, they play and explore nature too; all under expert supervision! Bookings required and spots are limited.

Family space
Family space

We provide a small space for breastfeeding, nappy changes, or just a quiet space that’s away from the busy-ness and noise of the Runhub. It can also be used as a safe and private change area. There is also support crew access at most of our Aid Stations which can be useful for families of breastfeeding women.

Toilets & Sanitary products
Toilets & Sanitary products

We have portaloos at the Runhub and at all aid stations, and these are stocked with pads and tampons because we know, sometimes a woman's period can start unexpectedly, especially for women in peri-menopause who have erratic menstrual cycles.

Female specific merch & 50/50 representation of women

We know that we all come in different shapes and sizes so you’ll find our merch comes in women and men’s sizing. We also aim to feature women of all ages, backgrounds and running experience on our social media and websites.
