Training Runs

Our Training Runs are designed for all levels of runners. Whether you’re a beginner runner, or new to trails, or have more experience but want help with your technical running. Our Training Runs will cover the Mountain Run & Ultra courses – plus the International Women's Day: Foothills Trail Run (6 March) is a social run that's also great training for the Foothills events!

Training Run dates: 23rd, 24th, 25th January 2027

Our Training Runs are held across 3 days. Whether you're going to do the Ultra Solo 66km, the Alpine Marathon 46km or the Mountain Run 25km, there's a session for you. Join us for a half day session, a full day or all three days. Across six half-day sessions, we cover every leg of the Ultra Solo course, including both the uphill of the Mountain Run 25km course, and are introducing the Alpine leg to our 2027 Training Runs.

Each leg has 2 coaches who will cater for the varying different speeds and experience. There’s no need to worry about being too slow! The main group will be moving at the equivalent of a 6-8 min/km pace on the flat (speeds on the trails will be slower than that, depending on the technicality).

If you are super keen to do a training run that takes in the new 80km Ultra legs, Mountain Run Downhill or the VK, please email us.

Run Coaches:

Lincoln Quilliam

Lincoln Quilliam

Lincoln loves exploring with Kunanyi and immersing in the wild landscapes of Lutruwita/Tasmania. Lincoln’s coaching centres on confidence, curiosity, and the mental adaptability needed to thrive in wild places. He focuses on navigating uncertainty, managing expectations, and building comfort in challenging terrain. Adventure and play open the door to resilient, grounded ways of thriving on the trails.

Lincoln loves trail events for the way they celebrate the community around the trails. He typically finishes around the 30th percentile and gravitates toward steeper, technical skyrunning type terrain. A Civil Engineer by trade, he’s the founder and RD of Trail Ventures (Kunanyi Mountain Run, DIVERGE Skyruns, and the Kunanyi Trail Series). The future pinnacle of his coaching life is simply seeing his two young kids froth on wild trails as much as he does.

Jessica Collins

Jessica Collins

Jess is an experienced trail and ultramarathon runner, who has been competing since 2013 across a wide range of events, from road races and local cross-country competitions to challenging mountainous ultramarathons. She's represented Australia at the 2019 Trail Running World Championships and the 2022 Skyrunning World Championships. She has also achieved podium finishes at several Australian trail-running events.

A self-described science geek, she is passionate about understanding the biological foundations of athletic performance, training adaptation and recovery. Her scientific background allows her to take an evidence-based approach to coaching while still recognising that every athlete is different. Having balanced a demanding career with the training required for ultramarathon competition, Jess also understands the challenges of fitting consistent training around work, family and everyday life.

Through her coaching and her own athletic pursuits, Jess hopes to inspire others to become healthier, more active and more adventurous versions of themselves.

What runners say:

Foothills Social Run

Mark Saturday 6 March in your diary for Hobart’s biggest social trail run! KMR partners with many of Hobart’s runclubs for the International Women’s Day Foothills Trail Runs. Run and explore the bush, get tips on trail running, connect with others in the community, and learn. Plus it’s an important opportunity to raise funds for the Hobart Women’s Shelter, which provides emergency accommodation, long-term housing and vital support services to women and children escaping family violence or homelessness.

This is a free, community event with 4km and 8km routes, as well as a walking route. It’s a social training run for the KMR Foothills events (5km, 9km and 14km), but it’s also an opportunity to introduce people who are brand new to trail running to the sport and to de-mystify the trails.

Join us post-run for a QnA at the Cascade Brewery Bar, spot prize give-away and a whole lot of fun. Why not stick around afterwards for lunch and maybe a few drinks in the garden, looking out to the mountain.

This is a free event, but is ticketed for catering purposes.
