Why are you running kMR in 2024?

2 things really - Kunanyi looks like a beautiful course (and I haven’t seen much of Tasmania so it’s the perfect excuse to explore more), and being the second race in the Golden Trail Series it’s bound draw some great competition.

What’s your trail running story?

I ran my first trail race at the Ultra Trail Australia (UTA 50k) in 2022 with one of my housemates. Neither of us had run further than the City to Surf (14k) before let alone an ultra in the bush, but Covid lockdowns were tough in Sydney and we wanted to set a crazy challenge for ourselves. I ended up falling in love with it: from the adrenaline to the suffering, all the way to the enjoyment that comes with finishing, I am fascinated by the idea that by pushing past the point of fatigue we can find a new strength we would never have dreamed of possessing.

In trail racing,I’ve found the perfect combination of connecting to nature and embracing my competitive spirit which acts as an outlet to my busy life as a private wealth analyst at New York Investment Bank, Goldman Sachs.

Having recently signed a contract with the ON Trail Team, I’m super excited to test whether this crazy passion of mine can become something more!

What’s your 1 ‘must have’ item that you’ll have with you for kMR?

It might sound superstitious but I never race without my silver angel pendant tied to my pack. It was a present from my grandma before I flew over to Europe last year after being selected to represent Australia in the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Austria. She said the angel would always look over me and guide me in the right direction.

What’s your goal for kMR?

I’m only just returning from a pretty serious injury actually. I broke my calcaneus/heel bone at the end of January. I came out of the moon boot only a few weeks ago so simply being at the start line is a huge accomplishment for me! Hopefully I can make it to the finish line as well.

What is your goal for the 2024 Golden Trail National Series?

Before breaking my heel I wanted to give the GTNS a red hot go! I was in great shape and I really backed myself to throw my hat in the ring for a place in the final. But injuries happen and always come at the worst time. It means resetting my goals a bit for this year and really just using all the races in the series as prep for my larger goal of racing at OCC in August (which I qualified for after winning the Kosci 50k in December).
